I have definitely been in a writer’s funk lately. Now truthfully, I don’t claim to be the world’s best writer, but at times, I can write a pretty decent blog post or article. Until recently. I’m in a slump!
I’ve listened to the all the great internet marketers and have been using some of their ideas about quest bloggers and re-purposing past posts and articles. And while searching, I found a great article by Chris Garrett, How To Generate Post Ideas When Your Stuck, that I thought might be helpful to you too.
So take a look and I’d love to hear what you do when you need to get your blog moving again. Just post your comments below.

When I’m stuck, I look to news headlines to see if there is any way I can relate current events to a relevant issue for my clients. Or, I think about events in my own life and look for lessons I can share. Lastly, I reflect on anecdotes my clients have shared with me or a problem that continually comes up, and I find a way to address a very small niche problem and create a blog post around that.
These are all great suggestions, Lisa. Thank you so much for sharing!
Great tips, Terri. I needed those last week when I was also in a funk.
I tend to look at other blogs to get ideas for my posts. I love Alltop.com for that. I also have a very long list of topics/headlines in my file that I can pull from. Many of the topics need to be researched, so when I don’t feel like writing, I’ll do the research, learn something new, which makes we want to write. Sometimes, though, I just wait out the funk. It always passes.
Oh, I just thought of something else that I love that gets me unstuck. I learn so much from watching TV. I seem to be open and catch words that come from what I’m watching and somehow I always relate it to marketing. Then I can write my blog from what I’ve just experienced. i.e. I just wrote about something from last nights America’s Got Talent.
Now that’s really thinking!! I’m always so glued to the tube that I don’t think about using things I see and hear for marketing. Great idea, Beth!!
One of the best things that gets me going when I’m stuck is Accountability. I call a business friend and say, I’m going to have my blog posted by 3:00 p.m. today or 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Accountability is great in just about any situation. Isn’t it great to have someone that you can count on to get you moving?
Very helpful article Terri. One thing that works for me are my physical journals. As a matter of fact, every post on my book blog was first written by hand in that journal. I seem to think through ideas for where to take my writing more effectively when left to hand to paper. It gives me the freedom to play. Thanks for sharing, Jeff

Excellent idea, Jeff.
I find my favorite quote and write about it–oh wait, I do that for EVERY blog post for my Inner Resource Center blog (http://www.InnerResourceCenter.blogspot.com ) It is much easier to get started when you have something to jump off of.
I hate it when I get into a dry spot of writing. I find that if I keep my eyes and ears open, inspiration will strike.
