Are you Checking your Facebook Updates?

StumbleUponLinkedInShare

Well, are you?  I have to confess, I wasn’t.  And I didn’t even realize it!  I was checking my Facebook messages, but failed to look further down to see that I had a ton of Facebook Updates in my Inbox.

An update is a message that is sent by a Fan Page Administrator to communicate what’s going on with the page.  This is sent to all the Fans and is distributed through the updates feature.

Since I totally missed it I thought I would do a short little video to show you where to find your updates on Facebook.

You might want to check your updates now and clean out if you are like me and hadn’t checked them…ever!  Yikes!

Find out What you Need to do with the New Facebook Fan Page Changes

StumbleUponLinkedInShare

If you have been following me very long, you know I am a big proponent of Facebook Fan Pages.  I think every online business owner needs and should have a Fan Page.  There are many reasons why, but the top reason is for the search engine optimization (SEO).  Fan Pages are indexed, and show up in searches by Google, Bing and Yahoo, along with Twitter posts.  So to not have a Fan Page is like having a radio show without a frequency!

But Facebook is rolling out some changes to the way we develop custom fan pages and I thought I would share some of the main points with you.

They will be eliminating the Boxes Tab.  So check your page and if you have critical information in your Boxes tab, be sure you move it to another place or add an additional application to house it.

Also, one of the biggest changes, that will effect thousands of Custom Fan Pages, is the width of the pages will be decreased to 520px.  What this means is if you had a Fan Page custom designed with your header, opt-in box and links to other social media sites in a custom tab, you will most likely need to have it re-sized.  It’s a pretty easy fix, if you know a little html coding.  If not, you will need to go back to the person that designed your Fan Page and ask them to fix it for you.

It seems that there are always changes coming from Facebook – some good, some not so good.  But either way, we must comply and make them work for us.  So check your Fan Page to make sure the Custom Tab is sized properly, the changes take effect on August 23rd. And if you don’t have a Fan Page at all, don’t you think it’s about time to get one?
